Solve landscape maintenance issues with artificial turf

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

Drainage problems, lack of sun or scarce water resources are problems property and homeowners face in all parts of the country.  You need a place for children to play and you want a beautiful lawn, but fighting mother nature and environmental concerns have made many aware of today’s artificial turf.  IntelliTurf was recently asked to help with such a problem for a backyard that would not drain and did not get enough sunlight.

Zoysia was the grass that was present when we were asked to investigate and it stayed dormant until late in the growing season.  Many options were discussed at various budget points.  As avid golfers the homeowners were excited about making the space usable for one of their passions while solving the various issues with natural grass.

Numerous proposals and designs were created to balance the use of spaces on either side of the pool deck.  Alternative sports for the children, entertaining family and friends as well as the effect the family dogs would have were all taken into account.

The concept that was decided upon was a lawn next to the pool deck with a putting green below.  This allowed for tee boxes to be placed out in the trees creating a short game practice area while keeping the upper portion of the space usable for entertaining. Below is the concept rendering and an image of the final installation.

Artificial Turf Lawn and Putting Green solves Dog problems

We were recently contracted to help with a problem that has occurred in many parts of the south over the past few years.  With the recent flooding and heavy rains many lawns are nothing but mud.  Before the flooding was years of drought that killed many grass lawns and now this is followed by flooding.  If dogs are let loose out back to run and play and do their business then return inside, that can make for quite a mess.

Artificial turf lawn and putting green

One homeowner contacted us with a daily mopping habit because her 4 dogs would track in nothing but mud every time they were let out.  Both husband and wife are golfers so we come up with a solution that satisfied many of their de

sires.  A low maintenance artificial turf lawn that the dogs could play without the mud, a putting green that can hold chip shots and add a great deal of fun to the backyard and finally a beautiful landscape that requires a few minutes of blowing it off to return the backyard to pristine condition.

Artificial turf putting green by IntelliTurf uses sand filled technology that will place 8 pounds of sand per square foot down inside 1 1/4 inch high turf fibers that delivers a surface where dog and children can play all day and when dad gets home at night, his putting surface is championship P.G.A. Tour quality.

IntelliTurf has over 50 types of artificial turf including over 20 choices for your synthetic turf lawn and many are specifically designed for a certain audience or activity.  Putting green is the industry term for and artificial turf golf surface but in reality we install a synthetic turf golf green that will hold a golf shot from up to 180 yards away.  So not only can you eliminate 3 putts from your game with putting practice, you can put a wedge in your hands in almost any backyard and practice your chipping.  If space allows, the hitting of golf shots is the next adventure for the homeowner.

On top of sports applications, dog turf, which is also known as pet turf, helps to eliminate the problems this homeowner had of mopping the floor every time the dogs were let out back.  A beautiful new lawn that will add the great game of golf to evenings out back and the elimination of mud in the house.  These are the types of projects that will keep IntelliTurf and the artificial turf market growing for years to come.
