IntelliTurf - Artificial Turf and Putting Greens

Drainage problems, lack of sun or scarce water resources are problems property and homeowners face in all parts of the country.  You need a place for children to play and you want a beautiful lawn, but fighting mother nature and environmental concerns have made many aware of today’s artificial turf.  IntelliTurf was recently asked to help with such a problem for a backyard that would not drain and did not get enough sunlight.

Zoysia was the grass that was present when we were asked to investigate and it stayed dormant until late in the growing season.  Many options were discussed at various budget points.  As avid golfers the homeowners were excited about making the space usable for one of their passions while solving the various issues with natural grass.

Numerous proposals and designs were created to balance the use of spaces on either side of the pool deck.  Alternative sports for the children, entertaining family and friends as well as the effect the family dogs would have were all taken into account.

The concept that was decided upon was a lawn next to the pool deck with a putting green below.  This allowed for tee boxes to be placed out in the trees creating a short game practice area while keeping the upper portion of the space usable for entertaining. Church daycare facility hired IntelliTurf to install a 6,000 square foot playground complete with a tricycle track and a safe artificial turf playground surface.  IntelliTurf installs Lead Free 100% recyclable artificial turf and on playgrounds we use recycled foam padding beneath the turf to provide the proper fall height protection prescribed by the playground equipment manufacturer.  Beautiful all year long and without many of  the problems that plague other playground surfaces this daycare facility can provide its membership with the finest recreational surface available.

Artificial Turf Playground surfaces are superior to wood mulch from many aspects including aesthetics, safety and maintenance.  Wood mulch can become displaced in high traffic areas as wells as heavy rains.  Splinters and compaction of the surfaces are hazards that are inevitable over time.  Artificial turf playgrounds by IntelliTurf places a foam pad under the turf so the displacement of the safety cushion does not occur.  Once wood mulch washes away during heavy rains, many playgrounds become nothing more than mud pits that have to be closed until they dry out.  Artificial turf installations drain at a rapid pace allowing for schools and daycare facilities to use the surface as soon as the rain stops.  Keeping children cooped up all afternoon can deliver trying times for teachers.

Other rubber playground surfaces such as pour in place rubber or rubber mulch are also inferior to artificial turf playground systems.  IntelliTurf playground system protects the foam cushion by installing our artificial turf products over the top of the padding which protects the padding from the elements and does not allow the material to become displaced.  Rubber mulch can wash away just like wood mulch and it gets displaced in high traffic areas.

After inspecting high traffic areas you will notice pour in place rubber breaking down and crumbling.  Artificial turf fibers that are 1 1/2 inches to 2 inches tall are filled with a special sand and the fibers work together with the sand to keep high traffic areas in tact.  This turf - sand combination also protects the foam padding below ensuing proper fall height protection for years and years.

We were recently contracted to help with a problem that has occurred in many parts of the south over the past few years.  With the recent flooding and heavy rains many lawns are nothing but mud.  Before the flooding was years of drought that killed many grass lawns and now this is followed by flooding.  If dogs are let loose out back to run and play and do their business then return inside, that can make for quite a mess.
